We are a two-partner traditional firm based in modern offices in a convenient location in the centre of Huddersfield covering a wide range of legal matters. All work is undertaken by qualified solicitors with significant experience in the matters with which we deal.
One of the partners, John Oates, is also a member of Solicitors for the Elderly and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.
Wills
Making a will can seem to be daunting, but it is important to be sure that your wishes will be carried into effect after you die rather than leaving it to the legal rules on intestacy to determine this, and the preparation of a will is also a good time to consider tax issues and other matters such as powers of attorney, all of which we are able to advise upon. We can also register the fact that you have made a will with the Certainty National Will Register
All of our solicitors are experienced in the preparation of wills and John Oates is a member of Solicitors for the Elderly and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.
Home visits can usually be arranged if you are unable to come to our offices.
Probate / Administration of Estates
Whether you are an executor or are interested in the estate of someone who has died we can advise on all matters which need to be dealt with, including the preparation of Inheritance Tax returns and applications to the Probate Registry whether there is a will or not. We also regularly advise in connection with the administration of estates and more complex cases where there are trusts arising under the will or disputes over the estate. We can assist with all matters, whatever the size of the estate.
Conveyancing / Property
We deal with a wide range of commercial and residential property matters, including the legal aspects of buying and selling your home, mortgages and equity release schemes, as well as advising generally in relation to all aspects of your property.
For most matters it is possible to give an estimate of fees before any work commences; for details please contact us on (01484) 300609
Landlord and Tenant
We have extensive experience in creating tenancy agreements for houses, court proceedings in rent arrears and breach of covenant cases, leases of commercial property, whether for landlord or tenant, court proceedings in relation to commercial leases, leases for flats, particularly in blocks of apartments and right to buy and shared ownership schemes.
Powers of Attorney / Court of Protection
Preparation and registration of a power of attorney by an individual can enable another person, chosen by them, to handle their affairs if they no longer have capacity to do so themselves. If there is no power of attorney in place it may be necessary to apply to the Court of Protection for someone to be appointed to act as their Deputy. We can act for you on all aspects of preparation and registration of powers of attorney, or, if necessary, applications to the Court of Protection.
